Install Wisspa

Get Wisspa running on your Mac in five minutes.

Prerequisites

Both providers have free tiers generous enough to trial with. Wisspa stores both keys in your macOS Keychain — never on disk, never on our servers.

Download

Free and open source, MIT licensed — all of it. Grab the signed, notarised build from the download page or GitHub Releases, or build from source (git clone, pnpm install, pnpm tauri build).

First launch: builds are signed and notarised by Apple, so it just opens — no right-click dance, no warnings.

Install

  1. Open the downloaded .dmg.
  2. Drag Wisspa into Applications.
  3. Launch it. A small pill appears at the top of your screen, and the onboarding wizard opens.

Onboarding (eight steps, about three minutes)

The wizard walks you through, in order:

  1. Welcome — what Wisspa does.
  2. Microphone — click Request access and allow the macOS prompt.
  3. Accessibility — needed to paste text into other apps. Open System Settings from the wizard and toggle Wisspa on.
  4. Screen Recording (optional) — only for the screenshot voice actions. Skip if you won't use them.
  5. Automation — lets Wisspa detect the frontmost app and simulate Cmd+V. macOS prompts on first use; you can pre-approve here.
  6. API keys — paste your Groq and Anthropic keys. Each has a Save & test button that verifies the key against the provider.
  7. Hotkeys — the defaults are shown, and you can change any of them right here: click Change, press your combo, done. Single keys like F18 work great.
  8. Mic calibration & test — two seconds of silence, then say "hello, hello, hello". Then click the test box, hold your dictation hotkey, and say something — the cleaned text should land in the box.

Click Finish setup and you're live.

Your first dictation

Click into any text field — Notes, Gmail, Slack, anywhere. Hold Cmd+Shift+Space, say a sentence, release. Cleaned text appears where your cursor was.

If it doesn't, the most common culprit is Accessibility — see Permissions or Troubleshooting.

What gets installed where

  • App: /Applications/Wisspa.app
  • Settings: ~/Library/Application Support/com.techguider.wisspa/settings.json
  • History: same folder, history.db (SQLite)
  • Voice actions: same folder, actions/ (editable YAML)
  • Logs: ~/Library/Logs/Wisspa/wisspa.log
  • API keys: macOS Keychain only

Uninstalling is: quit, drag the app to the bin, delete the two folders above. No launch agents, no daemons, no residue.
